As an educational administrator, with a Masters in Educational Leadership from Santa Clara University and a Masters in Social Work from San Jose State University I posses a multi-disciplinary approach to leadership, that recognizes the needs of the whole child. My motivation for pursuing a doctoral degree stems from a longstanding desire to improve educational outcomes for all students; especially those in alternative education settings, where ethnic minority groups tend to be over-represented and school failure is common. My interest is in using my skills to study and create a new model of alternative education that reframes the current paradigm and leverages student assets to create a genuinely alternative program fostering student success. My previous professional roles as a counselor, teacher, lecturer at San Jose State University, and Coordinator of Student Health and Safety at the Santa Clara County Office of Education provide me with important experiences to explore issues of equity and access for all students. As the current Student Services Coordinator with Palo Alto Unified School District I have the unique opportunity to partner with district and community stakeholders in significant and coordinated efforts to promote student health and academic success.
